They’re not even allowed to drink (at least legally) but Sunflower Bean all already starting to call to mind the work ethic of prolific rockers like Ty Segall. The group have been touring endlessly since the start of 2014, playing more shows than anyone else in the great city of New York. This year they released their fantastic debut EP Show Me Your Seven Secrets, full of songs featuring hard-hitting psych wandering. They then followed that up with a 7″ featuring two rippers (“I Hear Voices” / “The Stalker”) that was released via Fat Possum over the summer.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the group have now announced that their debut album Human Ceremony will be released via Fat Possum on February 5. To mark the occasion of the announcement, the trio have released the ripping first single “Wall Watcher.” It’s a song that I’ve heard many times in live form, and I can proudly say that they’ve captured its essence and then some on this recording. It showcases the bands ability to rip through glorious fuzz rips, while also finding a slick psych-groove that they hammer home almost too easily.

Stream “Wall Watcher” below, pre-order the album here, and find the tracklisting below. I’ve also included their upcoming tour dates, which includes their own headlining performance at Bowery Ballroom on February 25, as well as a return trip to SXSW.

WilcoStarWarsLate this afternoon and to everybody’s surprise, Wilco released a brand new album titled Star Wars literally out of nowhere with absolutely no teasers, no hype, no lead single, no nothing. It’s their ninth studio album, and the first release of brand new music since 2011’s wonderful ‘The Whole Love’ (via its own dBpm records). Even better? They’re giving it away for free. Yes, you read that correctly… they’re giving it away for free (albeit for a “limited time,” with an additional quick input of your email address).

“Why release an album this way and why make it free?” Tweedy states on the official Wilco Facebook page. “Well, the biggest reason, and I’m not sure we even need any others, is that it felt like it would be fun. What’s more fun than a surprise?”

Interpol Announce New Album: ‘El Pintor’

By Will Oliver, June 5th 2014

Interpol - El Pintor

With their headline spot at Governors Ball this weekend, now is a good time for Interpol to announce news of their new album. It’s titled El Pintor and will be released sometime this September via Matador. Hopefully they will play plenty of the new material over the weekend, as they did in England this March, where they played “My Desire”, “Anywhere” and “All The Rage Back Home.”

Here’s the message that Matador shared about the album today on the Matablog:

On September 9, we’ll be releasing INTERPOL‘s first new album in 4 years, ‘El Pintor’ on LP, compact disc and all digital formats in North, Central and South America (PIAS/Co-op will be handling the rest of the world). Recorded at Electric Lady Studios and Atomic Sound in New York City with engineer James Brown, the band’s fifth album – taut and epic in equal measure – finds Interpol recharged, and ready to reclaim their mantle as one of the planet’s best. ‘El Pintor’’s songs (track listing below) were written and produced by Interpol, with Daniel Kessler playing guitar & piano, Samuel Fogarino on drums, and Paul Banks on vocals, guitars, and taking over bass duties for the first time. The album also features contributions from The Secret Machines’ Brandon Curtis (keyboards), Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. (Beck, Air) playing keyboards on “Tidal Wave,” and Rob Moose (Bon Iver) playing violin and viola on “Twice as Hard.” ‘El Pintor’ was mixed by Alan Moulder at Assault and Battery Studios, and mastered by Greg Calbi.

Interestingly Paul Banks will handle bass duties for the first time.

They’ve shared a making of video/trailer, which Adam Levite directed. There’s some short clips of new material included. Find that below, along with the El Pintor tracklist. Read the rest of this entry »

[new] Coldplay – Magic | Announce New Album: Ghost Stories

By Will Oliver, March 5th 2014 — with 3 comments

MilaBlueWingF 2

Last week Coldplay returned with a new song called “Midnight” of nowhere (and they are playing at SXSW during a show iTunes is controversially putting on).

It turns out this is all leading up to the release of a brand new album. The album is titled Ghost Stories, and comes out May 9 via Parlophone/Atlantic.

The announcement came with the release of the album’s first single, a track called “Magic.” While “Midnight” was a stray from their more usual sound, “Magic” is a more a return to form for Coldplay. It’s indeed a magical little track from the band that starts off calm and slowly blossoms into something a big bigger. Fans who weren’t pulled in as much with “Midnight” should be much fonder of “Magic.”

Find “Magic” posted below. The tracklist for Ghost Stories is posted below that. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s about time.

Duck Sauce, the electronic dance tag team duo of DJ’s A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, have finally announced their debut record. It’s appropriately titled Quack and will come out April 15 via Fool’s Gold. That’s the album art posted above.

Believe it or not, after all these years, previous singles “Barbra Streisand”, “aNYway”, and “It’s You” will be included on the album (interestingly no “Big Bad Wolf”) , along with nine other new tracks.

They announced the album with a very clever and hilarious teaser video that should set the standard for how album’s are released from now on. Find the video below along with the album tracklist.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart will return with new album Days Of Abandon on April 22 via Yebo Music.

It’s the band’s third album and it was recorded at House Under Magic, a new studio in Greenpoint. Andy Savours produced the album which is someting a bit more personal from the band. Even though the subjects may be dark, the songs were made in a joyful way.

A trailer for the album has been released, featuring the album’s opening cut “Art Smock.” Check it out below along with the trackist and some upcoming tour dates.

By Will Oliver, January 21st 2014 — with 1 comment

EMA - The Future's Void

EMA has revealed that her new album The Future’s Void is coming out April 8 via Matador. That’s the album artwork posted above.

She shared the album’s first single “Satellites” at the end of last year, and now she’s released the song’s official music video. Erika M. Anderson (EMA) co-directed the video herself along with Leif Shackelford (they both also produced the album).

It’s a visceral experience. Scoop the video below.
