Concert Announcement

WLFY_poster_new

This year will be my first at SXSW. I’m excited to see what will happen, but I’m even more excited to be a part of a great party/showcase. My buddy Zach over at the incredible We Listen For You is teaming up with sonaBLAST! to give us one hell of a free unofficial party.

The show will feature an acoustic set from Rod Argent & Colin Blunstone of The Zombies, Et Tu Brucé, Dent May, Nerves Junior, Shugo Tokumaru, The Pass, Royal Bangs, Conveyor, and Miracles Of Modern Science. Hip Hatchet & Christopher Denny will be around all day delivering acoustic sets.

Zach asked us to sponsor the show, and how could I say no with a lineup like that. Some other great blogs are also on board: The 405, Pretty Much Amazing, The Music Ninja, and The Decibel Tolls.

RSVP here. You don’t want to miss this show, it’s gonna be a good one.

Governors Ball Announces 2013 Lineup

By Will Oliver, January 22nd 2013

GovernorsBall2013Lineup

I had a great time at the Governors Ball last year. With the 2013 lineup announcement, it seems like the festival is growing a lot bigger. Not only is there another day added (June 7,8,9) but the quality and size of the artists particiapting this year seem to be on an all-around grander scale.

Headliners include Kanye West, Kings Of Leon and a secret guest that will be announced later (bets on it being the Yeah Yeah Yeahs?). Also playing are Nas, Grizzly Bear, The xx, Kendrick Lamar, Beach House, Cut Copy, Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Bloc Party, Beirut, Local Natives, Death From Above 1979, Crystal Castles, Yeasayer, Dirty Projectors, Best Coast, Japandroids, Alt-J, Divine Fits, The Vaccines, and Haim.

You can scoop the whole lineup on the poster above, or head to the site. Early bird tickets go on-sale this Friday.

The National Announce Barclays Center Show

Damn, The National have come a long way. Seeing them play for free at South Street Seaport doesn’t seem like that long ago. The band have made giant strides with every passing moment, and now it all comes together on June 5, when they headline the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

This is a seminal moment in their fantastic career, that no fan of the band in the area should miss. It is likely a sign that the band has a new album quickly approaching.

Youth Lagoon will open, which just adds to the awesomeness of it all.

I’ll be there. Care to join? Tickets go onsale Friday at 11 a.m.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Playing Sandy Benefit At Union Pool

By Will Oliver, November 26th 2012 — with 1 comment

It’s been a long time since we have seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in action. We will get a shot to see them soon as they just announced a super intimate show at Union Pool that will take place on December 8. Tickets are not cheap as it is a benefit show. Prices are either $75 or $100 bucks, depending on if you want extra goodies. However, Union Pool is probably the smallest venue you will ever be able to see these guys again. All proceeds benefit WAVES 4 WATER, a Hurricane Sandy relief initiative.

Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band will open, featuring Tunde Adebimpe of TV on The Radio.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon.

In case you missed it, Danger Village is throwing a showcase during CMJ. They asked us to help be a part, and we couldn’t be happier. The showcase is called the Danger Village Fall Fun Showcase, and it takes place at the Delinquency in Brooklyn on Friday October 19, starting at 7 p.m. RSVP on facebook here.

I have a pair of tickets to give away, plus signed CDs and a signed poster from all the artists. To enter the contest, you need to RT this tweet and you’re good to go.

We will pick a winner at random, and notify them once we do. Hope to see you there, either way! For more info on the show, please head here.

Maxïmo Park @ Webster Hall This Thursday

By Will Oliver, September 11th 2012

Ever since Maxïmo Park released their terrific debut album A Certain Trigger in 2005, I have wanted to see them live. Never got the chance over the years, and they hadn’t toured in the U.S. since 2007. Well, they are back in support of their new album, The National Health.

The band are playing at Webster Hall on Thursday, and I’ll be there covering the show. Tickets are still available if you’re interested as well.

Below, watch the video for their powerful single “Hips and Lips”, from the new album.
