[Primiere] Alvin and Lyle – Winter’s Tale

By Will Oliver, February 25th 2013

Alvin and Lyle - Sounds EP

The mysterious Alvin and Lyle has revealed a little bit more to me. It turns out the it’s one person, who writes and produces the music in a basement based in Luxembourg. He worked on a new EP which was mixed by Jeremy Park (who co-produced Youth Lagoon’s The Year Of Hibernation) called the Sounds EP. There’s not too much I can tell you about the project, other than that it’s not his only musical project, and that he is working on getting a live show put together.

We have teamed with Alvin and Lyle to give you the exclusive stream of the EP for you here this Friday. But first, we have a little taste of the EP for you in the form of “Winter’s Tale”. It hits all of your senses, leaving you dazed in the sweet electronic sounds that are sincere and emotional.

We got the exclusive first listen of “Winter’s Tale” below, give it a spin and be on the lookout this Friday for the first listen at the Sounds EP.

[Premiere]: Digits – Modern Mess

By Will Oliver, November 17th 2011

Alt Altman, the pop brainchild behind London artist (via Toronto) Digits, has given us the exclusive premiere of his new single, “Modern Mess”. When we last heard from Digits it was via “Lost Dream”, which I adored a great deal. So I’m really honored that Alt let us reveal his latest gem.

“Modern Mess” is slow sensual electronic music in the finest form. This is the type of stuff that will warm you up even during the coldest winter frost. It’s got a confident hook that is translated with ease through his slow, confident vocals. It’s not to be missed.

Download it below thanks to Digits himself.

[Premiere] Howth- I Will Always Love You (Dolly Parton Cover)

By Will Oliver, May 3rd 2011 — with 3 comments

I introduced the fantastic Howth to you guys back in February, and they’re re-releasing their album through new label, Mecca Lecca. To celebrate, the band is giving away an incredible reworking of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”, the staple song of all things romantic. I am honored that they decided to let me premiere the track, because it’s exceptionally great.

It’s a touching display of affection that is impossible to ignore. Whitney’s cover is nearly impossible to out-do, but Howth didn’t try to do that. They molded the song into their own shape, and the result is something just as breathtakingly beautiful.

This is a cover that they should truly be proud of.

It seems only right that I am premiering an exclusive new song from SO3, one of the first bands I posted on my blog back in 2008. You know, when I still used blogspot and zshare. Yikes.

Well they believed in me then, and I believed in them. It was a mutual respect of believing in something new, and we haven’t looked back since. With the new layout, the band decided to make their brand new song “Invincible” available as a special download for me to give to you guys. It’s a honor to be able to give you guys the first listen of this great track.

I’ve been following the boys since summer 2008, and they’ve come quite a long way since then. “Invincible” displays their artistic growth in more ways than one. The band’s sound radiates cool collected confidence with crisp riffs and tight interplay between all three members. The song is an easy breezy listen with an easy going chorus that has sunny spring weather in mind. Good music can make a person feel invincible, and that’s exactly what “Invincible” does. If you don’t smile to this, then you need a vacation. Bad.

Grab the mp3 below and blast this one. It does better as the volume goes up.
