exlovers – Starlight, Starlight

By Will, January 28th 2012 — with 1 comment

exlovers are releasing their debut album Moth this May via Young & Lost Club . “Starlight, Starlight” is the first single from the group. It’s a track that flirts with shoegaze, shimmering with youthful memories of better times. The video only supports this, with faded memories of our past.

I first started listening to exlovers after discovering, “Just A Silhouette” in 2010. Here we are in 2012 and we are finally getting their debut LP. Can’t wait.

Lady Danville – Operating

By Will, January 26th 2012

L.A. band Lady Danville describe themselves as a vocal-centric indie-pop band. After a few highly enjoyable listens to their new track “Operating, I’m a fan. It has this hugeness in it’s sound that is really atmospheric and uplifting.

It’s the title track of their new EP which is due out on iTunes on February 14th. A month ago the band were in a car wreck, thankfully they are ok. It inspired them to make these songs, along with the album art that you see above.

Hopefully the rest of 2012 brings sounds as good as this.

[new]: Saint Etienne – Tonight

By Will, January 24th 2012

“Tonight” is the new single from the rather influential English dance/pop group Saint Etienne. It’s the first new music that they’ve released since 2005. A new album will follow.

This is feel good dance music all the way. The band made it with the intention of capturing that special feeling before seeing your favorite band live. The band’s very own Bob Stanley gave “Tonight” the following description on the band’s website:

“Tonight” about the anticipation of going to see your favorite artist. For some reason, I imagine this show is at the Forum in Kentish Town. The whole album is about the power of pop, how it affects and shapes your life. People talk about the problem of landfill indie, but there’s so much landfill pop around at the moment – we’re trying to do something about it.

I think the band succeeded with their attempt to capture this feeling.

Francis – Traktor

By Will, January 24th 2012

Dalarna, Sweden residents Francis are delighting me with the heavenly pop sounds of their new song “Traktor”. It features a really smooth melody that’s easy on the ears and even easier to hit repeat on. It’s from the band’s This Must Be Blood EP out February 27th via Strangers Candy/Playground

[new]: Brendan Benson – Bad For Me

By Will, January 24th 2012

Brendan Benson, co-founder of The Raconteurs is releasing his 5th solo album on April 21st. The album is called What Kind Of World, and it will be via his very own label Readymade Music.

“Bad For Me” is the first preview of the album and it’s a great little pop gem from the always reliable Benson. For those of you who favor his older solo stuff and the stuff he more-so influenced on both of The Raconteurs albums, this song is for you. He hits it way out of the park. Benson kept all of us who make poor choices in our romantic lives in mind. We’ve all been there before.

I’m still waiting for a new Raconteurs album, but solo material of equal quality to “Bad For Me” will keep me plenty satisfied in the meantime.

Buxton – Boy Of Nine

By Will, January 23rd 2012

Buxton bring a great folk-rock sound straight from Houston, Texas. There’s a warm sweet melody to “Boy Of Nine”, packed with banjo picking and lush harmonies. Just listening to the song opens your eyes to a much prettier landscape than the one that your probably sitting on now.

It’s off their upcoming album Nothing Here Seems Strange, which is out January 31st via New West Records. The entire album is available to stream over at Paste. Grab “Boy Of Nine” below.

Princeton – Remembrance Of Things To Come

By Will, January 23rd 2012

“Remembrance Of Things To Come” is the lead single and title track to Princeton’s new album. The single is a grand effort showcasing their adoration of both electronic and classical music. Add some grand sounding strings and soft vocals and you’re falling hard.

I absolutely loved the new tracks Princeton released last year, one even made my best of ’11 list. If the rest of the album holds up to this quality, it should be as solid of a release as you can ask.

The new album Remembrance Of Things To Come will come out February 21st on Hit City U.S.A./Easter Everywhere. It’s available to pre-order now.

Roman Ruins – Mighty Love

By Will, January 23rd 2012

Homebuilding is the debut album of Roman Ruins, the solo project of Graham Hill who is the drummer for Beach House. I first posted his solo work in 2010, and his LP is the culmination of all the work since then.

“Mighty Love” is the lead track from the album and it gives you a good idea of what you are getting from Hill. Dream inspired sounds with a tropical twist. A nice easy listen that you can get lost in.

Homebuilding will be released on February 28 via Gold Robot Records. It’s limited to 250 copies of a 12″ translucent milky white vinyl. How can you say no to that?
