[new]: Damon Albarn – The Dancing King

By Will, April 18th 2012

Last year Damon Albarn recorded 18 tracks with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in a west London studio. These sessions resulted in an album called Dr. Dee that Albarn will release on May 7. According to Albarn the album is 18 songs of music inspired by the life of John Dee, mathematician, polymath and adviser to Elizabeth I.

Below, download “The Dancing King”, a comfortable, warm cut from the album that sounds very Neil Young. Enjoy some peaceful natures sounds in the songs second half.

Beachwood Sparks – Forget The Song

By Will, April 17th 2012

The Tarnished Gold is Beachwood Sparks’ first album in 11 years. Sub Pop describes the album as “like being under cobalt blue skies and smelling the night-blooming jasmine on a perfect spring day in Los Angeles.”

That’s exactly the feel you get from “Forget The Song”, a new song from strong>The Tarnished Gold. Light strumming and feel good in every sense of the word. A nice warm day wouldn’t mind it’s company.

Grand Rapids – Feels Like A Lifetime

By Will, April 10th 2012

Manhattan-based band Grand Rapids “Feels Like A Lifetime” is an exciting single that the band is releasing through Too Pure, the new singles label of Beggars Group. It hits hard with a country twang transported straight to your beer soaked garage floors.

There’s no gimmick or bullshit to Grand Rapids. Just straight up good rocking.

They will be opening for The Virgins comeback show at The Mercury Lounge in May. That show just got even better.

After the jump stream the single’s b-side “Was That A Joke”. It’s another guitar friendly cut.

The Lower Class – The Sound In The Soul

By Will, April 10th 2012 — with 4 comments

The Lower Class is a hip-hop collective out of San Marcos, Texas. “The Sound In The Soul” is the first official single from their upcoming project entitled Wingfield.

An absolute chill beat goes perfectly with their early 90′s reminiscent verses. The band says the track focuses on nostalgic music discovery with influence from each member’s rap idol and the sound scape of Texas. It’s a late night listen must, putting your mind far at ease.

Keep an eye out for Wingfield sometime this summer.

The Arctic Monkeys Rarities Collection

By Will, April 10th 2012 — with 5 comments

This is my 4,000th post. That’s a pretty big number, so I figured I’d do something special for it.

As you know, as much as this is a music blog, I show a great deal of love and respect to Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys. Ever since I’ve been a fan, I’ve been collecting anything and everything that I could get my hands on. Now it’s 2012, so if you want to find a song of theirs, you probably can. But sometimes it’s easier said than done, and often it helps to have everything in one place.

I decided to make a giant collection of all Arctic Monkeys rarities. I got all of the covers that they’ve done, as well as some cool stuff they played live.

There are other fan sites that probably do the same, but this is for those of us who don’t follow everything Arctic Monkeys, but are interested in hearing some of their rarer stuff.

So without further ado, here’s my Arctic Monkeys b-sides & rarities collection for you. Share the love.
