Next week M.I.A. will release a brand new single titled “Bad Girls”. It was originally a part of her mixtape Vicki Leekx. The new version was produced by Danja and it will be officially released next Tuesday, but it will be streamed on Monday.

M. Ward has been pretty busy with his side-projects (She & Him, Monsters Of Folk) over the past few years. So it’s understandable why we haven’t received a new solo album from him for a few years. This all changes on April 10 when he releases his new album A Wasteland Companion via Merge Records.

The album was made with 18 musicians (of course Zooey Deschanel is one of them) and recorded in eight different studios in Portland, Omaha, New York City, Los Angeles, Austin and Bristol. Here’s a small description of the record from M. Ward:

Between now and when I made Hold Time there has been a lot of travelling which requires a lot of reckoning with what to leave behind and what to carry – material and otherwise – and thinking about what I want versus what I need, creatively and otherwise. I wanted to get a reflection of that on the album. It was a process of stripping away my security blanket, which is the same four walls I always record in.

Local Natives fans rejoice. The band’s updated their website with a photo that literally says “We Are Making A New Record”. It’s all we got right now, but that’s more than enough to keep us on our toes. Hopefully it will drop before 2012 ends.

There is indeed a documentary coming out about LCD Soundsystem’s final show at MSG. It’s called Shut Up And Play The Hits, and it’s trailer has just been revealed. The documentary follows James Murphy in the days leading up to and immediately after LCD’s final live performance, at Madison Square Garden last April.

The Film was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace. It mixes footage of the bands performance and everything in-between. It premieres at Sundance on January 22nd.

The 2012 Coachella lineup has been revealed and as usual, it’s massive.The three headliners are The Black Keys, Radiohead, and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg. Then you got the return of Pulp and At The Drive-In (who just announced their reunion today), Bon Iver, Arctic Monkeys, The Shins, Jeff Mangum, Justice, Beirut, The Weeknd, Florence & The Machine, M83, The Rapture, Girls, The Horrors, WU LYF, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, St. Vincent, Santigold, Real Estate, Kasabian, Azealia Banks, Kaiser Chiefs, The Vaccines, and Wild Beasts are also there, just to name a few.

Money is tight for all of us, but a lineup like this is hard to resist. The festival takes place on two weekends this year: April 13-15 and the second April 20-22. The lineups will be the same, it’s just so damn epic they need two of them. Three day passes go on sale this Friday and start at $285 (source).

At The Drive-In shocked the music world today with a tweet announcing that they are getting back together after 11 years of silence. The band broke up in 2001 and members split into The Mars Volta and Sparta, respectively.

No other details have been announced yet, but I’m guessing we will see a tour announcement sometime soon. If we get a new album too, that’s a bonus. It’s good to see that there is still hope out there that more broken bands can squash their beef and reunite.

 As my favorite movie blog /film points out, Jonny Greenwood, guitarist of Radiohead, is set to score the next Paul Thomas Anderson movie, The Master. It stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, and Laura Dern. Not half bad.

Jonny scored Paul Thomas Anderson’s last film, There Will Be Blood. His score helped contribute a great deal to the film, which was a powerhouse to begin with.

The info came from Oliver Weindling who is the founder of the record label Babel. He tweeted that one of his bands, Zed-U, helped recorded part of soundtrack for Jonny Greenwood for the new Anderson film.

This is fantastic movies for movie/music fans a-like.

The Black Keys have announced a spring 2012 arena tour which will see our favorite monkeys, Arctic Monkeys, open up for them. The tour will start on March 2nd, and will carry on until 3/23. The show includes a date at the always legendary Madison Square Garden on Sunday, March 12th. You know where I’ll be.

El Camino drops December 6 on Nonesuch Records. I’ve heard the album a few times, and let’s just say you’re going to want to save it a spot on your ear end lists.

Beach Fossils have begun writing/recording for their new album. The band took to their facebook page to post the following news:
