Camps – “High Heads”

By Will Oliver, December 10th 2017

Camps are a garage rock group from Louisiana who have quite a debut offering in their heavy hitting track “High Heads.” It’s an urgent garage rock stomper which has a been of a 90s feel to it and tons of southern flavor that gives it an extra bit of bite and kick.

Strong female vocals and a passionate garage punk sound that feels larger than life. Now that’s one way to catch our attention, Camps.

Stream “High Heads” below and head to their soundcloud to find the rest of their music.

Blood Child – “Psycho”

By Will Oliver, December 10th 2017 — with 1 comment

Hailing from the underground punk scene in Denmark are young rockers Blood Child. They came to my attention after being sent a live video of them performing a live session of their track “Psycho.” It definitely calls to mine of groups such as Ice Age, with a post-punk sound that features some great riffs and vocals that work together to create one hell of a glorious amount of noise. The fact that this track is live makes it all even more impressive.

Hope to get a proper recorded version of this but god damn, this version will do for now. Enjoy the video of the performance at Tapetown Studios posted below.

The Tokes – “No Sir (Dropout)”

By Will Oliver, December 10th 2017

It doesn’t take long for California punk rockers The Tokes to win you over with their high energy track “No Sir (Dropout),” a enthusiastic punk track with a sunny feel that definitely has an influence from their sunny state of mind being in California.

The band may not exactly be reinventing the wheel with this sound but they execute it so confidently that it completely won me over. These guys have some real licks, it will be interesting to see what comes next.

But for now, enjoy a stream of “No Sir (Dropout)” below.

Gold Class – “Twist In The Dark”

By Will Oliver, December 5th 2017

Gold Class are a four-piece punk rock outfit from Australia who released their new album Drum on August 18 via Felte. Based on tracks like “Twist In The Dark,” the band have quite nailed the brooding dark sinister punk rock sound that hits you like a ton of bricks.

It’s smartly handled, giving off a sense of the classic moody Brit punk rock of say the 80s, almost like an Australian male version of Savages. In other words, it’s good stuff.

You can find a stream of “Twist In The Dark” posted below and find the official music video as well. The whole album is also available to stream/purchase on their bandcamp page as well.

Pinecones – “Cosmosis”

By Will Oliver, February 5th 2015

Hailing from both Athents + Atlanta, Georgia, rock outfit Pinecones are making quite a ruckus. They’re gearing up to release their debut album Sings For You Now on April 14 via Arrowhawk Records.

“Cosmosis” is the first track shared from the record and it rocks, hard. It has elements of Parquet Courts, with raw, often brash vocals, placed alongside vicious guitars riffs and extended punk-inspired jams. It hits hard in all the right ways, finding a good balance of raw intensity and tight wound structure.

Take a listen to “Cosmosis” below.
