Tracklist

Sunflower

They’re not even allowed to drink (at least legally) but Sunflower Bean all already starting to call to mind the work ethic of prolific rockers like Ty Segall. The group have been touring endlessly since the start of 2014, playing more shows than anyone else in the great city of New York. This year they released their fantastic debut EP Show Me Your Seven Secrets, full of songs featuring hard-hitting psych wandering. They then followed that up with a 7″ featuring two rippers (“I Hear Voices” / “The Stalker”) that was released via Fat Possum over the summer.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the group have now announced that their debut album Human Ceremony will be released via Fat Possum on February 5. To mark the occasion of the announcement, the trio have released the ripping first single “Wall Watcher.” It’s a song that I’ve heard many times in live form, and I can proudly say that they’ve captured its essence and then some on this recording. It showcases the bands ability to rip through glorious fuzz rips, while also finding a slick psych-groove that they hammer home almost too easily.

Stream “Wall Watcher” below, pre-order the album here, and find the tracklisting below. I’ve also included their upcoming tour dates, which includes their own headlining performance at Bowery Ballroom on February 25, as well as a return trip to SXSW.

Well that was quick. After releasing new album Drop last year, Thee Oh Sees are returning with a new album this year. It’s called Mutilator Defeated At Last and it’s dropping via Castle Face Records on May 18. So much for that “hiatus.” Your move next Ty.

This incarnation of Thee Oh Sees features John Dwyer, Tim Hellman, Nick Murray (both who were the touring band for Drop last year), Chris Woodhouse, and Brigid Dawson.

Along with the announcement came the release of opening track “Web.” It’s a thrilling rocker from the group that combines the dripping psych-rock elements of Drop and combines them with the heavier guitar freakouts that we’ve come to expect from the group. It’s a combination of all of their worlds, and it’s a wonderful journey to take. I can already envision the beer-filled freakouts that this song with garner live.

Stream “Web” below, and find some new SXSW tour dates posted after the album tracklist.

My Morning Jacket

On May 4 My Morning Jacket will return with new album The Waterfall via ATO Records/Capitol Records.

It’s their seventh album and their first on Capitol Records. The group began recorded the album in late 2013 at the Panoramic House studio in Stinson Beach, California, with producer Tucker Martine (who co-produced their last album, Circuital).

Frontman Jim James told Rolling Stone that they entered the recording studio with a more spontaneous approach to recording. They ended up with 24 tracks, which they ended up splitting into a pair of albums, with the later set to come out in 2016.

One of those tracks was released today as a part of the album’s announcement, a dreamy psych-folk wonder called “Big Decisions.” It’s a sprawling big cut that calls to mind My Morning Jacket’s earlier days, with some slick modern stylings added for good measure.

They have also announced a set of tour dates that include Governors Ball. After seeing them play an astonishing set at The Capitol Theatre in 2012, I’m impatiently awaiting that performance come June. Find the full list of tour dates posted below, along with the album’s tracklisting and the video stream for “Big Decisions.”
