Vivian Girls 1

Last night our new photographer Daniel Topete was in attendance to catch some great shots of Vivian Girls, Widowspeak, Eternal Summers, and Heliotropes. They played the Music Hall of Williamsburg as a part of the Converse Rubber Tracks free series.

Check out the great shots of all the bands that Daniel captured below.

[new]: Santigold – Girls

By Will Oliver, December 10th 2012

The HBO show Girls is one of my favorite new shows. Apparently it’s also one of Sanitgold’s. She has given a new song appropriately titled “Girls”, to the show’s first soundtrack Girls: Music from the HBO Orginial Series, Vol.1 which comes out January 8 via Fueled By Ramen.

If there ever was an appropriate time to compare Santi to M.I.A., it’s on “Girls.” It’s an electronic rap fusion that isn’t my favorite thing from her, but I could understand its placement on the show.

Take a listen below.

Girls comes back on January 13. Watch the trailer below.

[new]: Girls Names – The New Life

By Will Oliver, October 3rd 2012

Girls Names have returned with a spiraling 7-minute guitar jam titled “The New Life”. What starts off as a 90′s influenced guitar rocker soon departs into waves of psychedelic guitar wash. The song only gets better as it goes along, so be sure to stay for the entire ride.

The single is due out November 12 via Tough Love Records. Pre-order the 12″ single here.

[new]: Dum Dum Girls – Lord Knows

By Will Oliver, July 31st 2012

“Lord Knows” is a new Dum Dum Girls song taken from their upcoming End Of Daze EP. It will be released via Sub Pop on September 25. It’s a hazy ballad that is very much up to speed with the rest of the girls arsenal.

The song is available for free download/streaming via the widget posted below.

Studio Versions Of Arctic Monkeys’ Amy Whinehouse/Girls Aloud Covers

By Will Oliver, July 3rd 2012 — with 1 comment

Shameful that I’m just posting about this now, but so be it. A few weeks ago Arctic Monkeys US shared studio covers of Arctic Monkeys notorious covers of Amy Whinehouse’s “You Know I’m Not Good” & Girls Aloud’s “Love Machine”.

These were covers that the band played live in the early, early, stages of their careers. We only had sub-par live recordings to feed off of, but we felt fortunate enough just having those. After all these years, studio quality versions of these covers have surfaced. If only you could have seen the look on my face when I made this fine discovery.

This one goes out to all of you guys who were Arctic Monkeys fans from the start. It really is.

Christopher Owens Leaves Girls

By Will Oliver, July 2nd 2012 — with 1 comment

If you’re a Girls fan, your day is about to be officially ruined. Christopher Owens took to twitter this morning to officially announce his departure from the band. Here are the tweets:

There’s no way to spin it: This sucks. I don’t know how the band can continue without him, as he was the face of the band. This is a major bummer.

Girls have released a pretty strange music video for “My Ma”. It was directed by Focus Creeps, and it may “creep” you out just a little bit. Watch it below.
