On January 28 Dum Dum Girls will release a new album titled Too True on Sub Pop. It’s the follow-up to last year’s EP, End Of Daze. The album was recorded in Dee Dee ‘s New York aparment as well as in Hollywood. The album stands at 10-songs and was produced by Richard Gottehrer.
With the announcement comes the album’s first single, “Lost Boys and Girls Club.” It’s a stunner of a song, lost in dreamy psychadelic haze. It’s a killer. They’ve released a video for it which was directed by SSION’s Cody Critcheloe, and released by H&M Life.
While watching Girls tonight I had to stop it when I thought I spotted Ezra Koenig, lead singer of Vampire Weekend on the show. It was in fact Ezra, who had a short but memorable cameo on the show as a friend of Jorma Taccone’s character Booth Jonathan.
Free Energy deliver a good time in the video for “Girls Want Rock”. They released it today in celebration of new album Love Sign, which came out today. I got a review of it coming soon. For now, watch them enjoy the good life in the video. Read the rest of this entry »
The HBO show Girls is one of my favorite new shows. Apparently it’s also one of Sanitgold’s. She has given a new song appropriately titled “Girls”, to the show’s first soundtrack Girls: Music from the HBO Orginial Series, Vol.1 which comes out January 8 via Fueled By Ramen.
If there ever was an appropriate time to compare Santi to M.I.A., it’s on “Girls.” It’s an electronic rap fusion that isn’t my favorite thing from her, but I could understand its placement on the show.
Girls Names have returned with a spiraling 7-minute guitar jam titled “The New Life”. What starts off as a 90’s influenced guitar rocker soon departs into waves of psychedelic guitar wash. The song only gets better as it goes along, so be sure to stay for the entire ride.
“Lord Knows” is a new Dum Dum Girls song taken from their upcoming End Of Daze EP. It will be released via Sub Pop on September 25. It’s a hazy ballad that is very much up to speed with the rest of the girls arsenal.
The song is available for free download/streaming via the widget posted below.
These were covers that the band played live in the early, early, stages of their careers. We only had sub-par live recordings to feed off of, but we felt fortunate enough just having those. After all these years, studio quality versions of these covers have surfaced. If only you could have seen the look on my face when I made this fine discovery.
This one goes out to all of you guys who were Arctic Monkeys fans from the start. It really is.
Dum Dum Girls are releasing a new EP titled End Of Daze on September 25 via Sub Pop. It’s a 5-song EP that features a cover of Strawberry Switchblade’s “Trees and Flowersâ€. They performed “Mine Tonight”, a song form the EP live for a Rhapsody acoustic session.
