[new]: M.I.A. – 27

By Will Oliver, July 24th 2011 — with 1 comment

Last night M.I.A. tweeted about a song called “27” that she posted on soundcloud. It’s an unfinished demo that she recorded “b4 vickileekx and never put it out”. She dedicated the song to Amy Winehouse, who passed away yesterday.

She went on to write “R.I.P. Amy”. Listen to the song below:

Guards just tweeted that they have a new free EP on bandcamp. It’s a digital 7″, 3 song EP consisting of covers that the band did. The songs that they covered are: Metallica’s “Motorbreath”, Vampire Weekends “Taxi Cab” and M.I.A.’s “Born Free”. Quite an eclectic group of covers.

Stream it below, or download the whole thing via bandcamp. I posted a mp3 of the “Taxi Cab” Cover, as well

Listen To A M.I.A./Diplo Demo

By Will Oliver, September 23rd 2010

I’m actually really enjoying this new M.I.A./Diplo demo that they posted here. Diplo says that he may leak the real version. I’m definetly interested in hearing it. I may actually like it better than some of the stuff on her latest album.

Let me know what you guys think.

[music video] M.I.A. – Story to Be Told

By Will Oliver, September 23rd 2010

M.I.A. seriously lives in her own world. Only she would create a internet themed video like “Story to Be Told” and host it on her newly purchased domain,

I’m not going to lie, I’m somewhat lost on pretty much everything that she has done on this album. I took a chance and bought tickets to see her at Cornell, so I’m hoping she puts on a good show.

Anyway, here’s the video. Have fun:

[video] M.I.A. – Born Free (Live On Letterman)

Check out M.I.A.’s explosive performance of “Born Free” done at David Letterman the other night. It features dozen’s of her doppelgangers, bringing max confusion to Letterman and his audience. Martin Rev from Suicide was also in her backing band.

[new] M.I.A. – Tell Me Why

By Will Oliver, July 6th 2010 — with 2 comments

Sharing a remix of “Teqkilla” wasn’t enough for M.I.A. Her new album / \ / \ / \ Y / \ drops one week from today, so she has added another song from the new album to stream on her myspace.

The newly added song is the Diplo produced “Tell Me Why” and it’s sounding pretty great right now. M.I.A. gives one of her calmer vocal performances, letting Diplo’s tribal flavored beats dominate. This may be my favorite song out of all that we have received so far. Would I be wrong calling this song beautiful at times?

Head over to M.I.A.’s myspace to hear it. Have fun, it’s a pain to navigate through the onslaught of youtube players and a uncontrollable media player.

The song is available to buy now on iTunes if you like it enough. If you haven’t already, the albums available to pre-order on Deluxe CD or Vinyl via insound!

M.I.A. – Teqkilla (Lost my fone out wiv Nicki Minaj Remix)

By Will Oliver, July 6th 2010 — with 2 comments

M.I.A.’s new album / \ / \ / \ Y / \ is a week away from finally being released. She’s been hitting us hard with individual song streams from the album, including the most recent one, “Teqkilla”. She’s also been releasing remixes of her songs like crazy.

She just dropped another remix, this time for “Teqkilla”. The song features Nicki Minaj, and is titled the Lost my fone out wiv Nicki Minaj Remix. That is either the coolest or most rediculous title depending on how you feel about an album title looking like this: / \ / \ / \ Y / \

Check out the remix below thanks to a free download from the N.E.E.T. Recordings Blog. Something tells me this song will become a late night favorite at some of the more hip clubs and parties this year.

Will I get stoned for saying that this song/remix isn’t doing much for me? Probably, but I’m just being honest with ya…

[new] M.I.A. – Stepping Up + XXXO Remix (Feat. Jay-Z)

By Will Oliver, June 10th 2010 — with 2 comments

Good old Zane Lowe played a brand new M.I.A. song called “Elastic Love” today on his radio show. As expected, a radio rip was made and now the song has spread around the internet.

It isn’t on the tracklisting for /\/\ /\ Y /\ , so it looks as though it’s another one off song. It features some guitars riffs and beat combo’s that are sure to remind of Sleigh Bells. It’s not her best song, but it certainly has some interesting ideas.

While your at it, grab a remix of “XXXO” that features a quickie from Jay-Z. I’m digging this:

[new] M.I.A. – Haters

By Will Oliver, May 30th 2010 — with 3 comments

If you want to read about the whole M.I.A./New York Times interview fiasco, then go to Pitchfork. They pretty much got that covered. In short, Lynn Hirschberg, a journalist for hte NY Times did a story on Maya, and when it came out M.I.A. said they misquoted her.

So Maya posted some audio clips of the interview on the N.E.E.T. Recordings Blog that apparently prove her point. You can also hear a new song from M.I.A. called “Haters”. It’s not including on the tracklisting for /\/\ /\ Y /\, so one can only assume this was made after the whole incident. It is a song that is certainly pointed towards Lynn Hirschberg and the rest of the NY Times. It samples Various Productions’ song “Hater”.
