Yeah Yeah Yeahs Playing Sandy Benefit At Union Pool

By Will Oliver, November 26th 2012 — with 1 comment

It’s been a long time since we have seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in action. We will get a shot to see them soon as they just announced a super intimate show at Union Pool that will take place on December 8. Tickets are not cheap as it is a benefit show. Prices are either $75 or $100 bucks, depending on if you want extra goodies. However, Union Pool is probably the smallest venue you will ever be able to see these guys again. All proceeds benefit WAVES 4 WATER, a Hurricane Sandy relief initiative.

Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band will open, featuring Tunde Adebimpe of TV on The Radio.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps (Cosmo Black Remix)

Cosmo Black

I’m not too huge on remixes. Most of the time they’re unnecessary. Now, a good remix can take a good song and bring it to a special level.

I received a remix of Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Maps” altered by the Australian electronic group Cosmo Black. It’s a understated remix that takes Karen’s vocals, and the sentiments of the song, resulting in a pretty special remix. Feelings of passionate longing for love fill the air.

Grab it below along with their electrifying remix of Basement Jaxx’s “Where’s Your Head At”:

Stream their dreamy single “When Night Becomes the Morn” as well. It’s a winner:

Arcade Fire – Maps (Yeah Yeah Yeahs Cover)

By Will Oliver, November 21st 2009 — with 3 comments

Maps is one of the finest songs of this decade. It is as close to perfect as they come! I can put it on at anytime and just let the music take over.

You can’t help but be interested when a band like Arcade Fire take the song into their own hands and give it their own interpretation. The song’s atmosphere is still there, but it has enough of the Arcade Fire’s strings and influences to make it their own. Win Butler and Régine Chassagne’s vocals are well suited for this song.

This cover isn’t new or anything, but I have rediscovered it, and wanted to share it with you guys! Me and my friends were really set on renting out this house for the next 2 years of college, but it isn’t going to work out. The house is pretty nice, but the area is complete shit. Some places downtown here are really shitty, and we just happened to look at a house in the heart of it.

Today was stressful and this song helped put my mind at ease. The search will continue!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

By Will Oliver, October 21st 2009 — with 1 comment

Remixes have been pretty good to me over the last few weeks! A-Trak does a pretty stellar job remixing the YYY’s “Heads Will Roll”. I’ve really been enjoying this remix over the past 2 days.

If only the shitty party’s I go to would actually play good dance/club music like this. Then maybe my tall lanky 6’5 ass would actually consider dancing.

A-Trak is one hell of a producer/dj, creating an epic jam like this:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (Passion Pit Remix)

By Will Oliver, July 5th 2009 — with 2 comments

2009 has been very good to both the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and Passion Pit. YYY’s have made a very strong comeback with their 3rd album It’s Blitz. While Passion Pit are the hottest new band of the year thanks to bloggers and the good old blog train. It’s Blitz had a dance groove to it, and Passion Pit have fine-tuned their electronic act. It is appropriate that PP took the time to remix one of the dance highlights of It’s Blitz “Heads Will Roll”.

Passion Pit’s revision of the track didn’t really do much for me. It just seemed to add some effects and slow it down. It’s a decent listen, but not a “spectacular’ remix. Oh wellz.

It will be on the “Heads Will Roll” single which is due 7/14.

Animal Collective Remix “Zero” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

By Will Oliver, April 13th 2009 — with 3 comments

Animal Collective and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are both having great 2009’s. It is only fitting to see Animal Collective give the YYY’s lead single from their new album “Zero” the remix treatment. They keep the songs pace, only really adding a few effects that give give it a trippy almost world sound. It is a nice listen, but not quite what I expected. What I did expect was something a hell of a lot more exciting. Oh well, it came free with a preorder of “Its Blitz!” from insound”

as a bonus here is the YYY’s doing a cover of The Ramones:

[new] Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric

By Will Oliver, March 10th 2009 — with 1 comment

The new Yeah Yeah Yeahs record “It’s Blitz” is really warming up to me. You really gotta give it enough time to really absorb everything. Although it isn’t an explosive garage rock album that “Fever To Tell” is, it is a very solid electronic/rock album with a lot of great things going on. One of the most impressive songs off the album is “Hysteric”. I think it gives a pretty good idea of what the new album is about. The chorus is totally gorgeous! Throughout the song you can’t help but adore Karen O’s sweet pipes.

Many people are having trouble getting over the bands new direction. The band is changing and with this change shows some depth. It is brave to me. This song really shows a lot of development in many areas. With every listen I am getting more attached to the album, which is always a good sign of a keeper!

NEW | Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll

By Will Oliver, February 21st 2009 — with 3 comments

Another track from the YYY’s new record “It’s Blitz” leaked online (where do these comes from???)! The newest track to drip from that leaky faucet is “Heads Will Roll”. The track continues to stay true to the band’s promise of a more dance driven record. This song is really nice, I really enjoyed this a lot more instantly than “Zero” which I pretty much adored as well. The YYY’s have always put out great material, and I got a really good feeling that the band will conquer their quest for a new sound.
