The Flaming Lips & Neon Indian got together at The Flaming Lips New Years Eve Freakout to perform their jam, “Is David Bowie Dying?”, from their collaborative EP. The performance took place at the Bricktown Events Center in The Flaming Lips hometown of Okalahoma City, Oklahoma.

The performance went down very smooth, must have been quite an experience. Watch the epic 7-minute performance below.

NPR is currently streaming Neon Indian’s new album Era Extraña in full glory. It doesn’t come out until September 13 so think of it as a Labor Day treat. This is just a few days after we heard “Hex Girlfriend”.

Stereogum has just pointed out that “Hex Girlfriend” is the latest cut to appear online from Neon Indian’s upcoming album, Era Extraña.

It’s the most straightforward track to come from the band yet. You could go as far as calling this a guitar based track. It’s dreamy cut that takes a stab at capturing the  mood of 80s synth-rock. It just may be my favorite cut from the album so far. See if you agree:

Neon Indian’s new album, Era Extraña, is going to grace eager audiences on September 13. We previously heard album track, “Fallout” last week. Today NPR premiered another new song, this time we got “Polish Girl”.

It’s another winner, further tacking the blipped out world that Alan has mapped out so well. Once again he’s pushing his sound to a more polished direction while also keeping those chillwave elements that took him this far.

Neon Indian is giving away his new song “Fallout” for free download. It will be on his new album, Era Extraña, which will be out on September 13 via Alan’s imprint label Static Tongues (via Mom + Pop Music).

“Fallout” is a drone inspired jam, further establishing the sound that Neon Indian has been perfecting, practically making his own. If you liked his earlier work, there should be no problem with “Fallout”

Era Extraña is the official title of Neon Indian’s new album. It will be released on Alan Palomo’s imprint label Static Tongues (via Mom + Pop Music) on September 13. That’s a lot sooner than I expected, making it even more awesome news.

In April we got a (small) taste of the album in the form of “Heart: Attack”. The album was recorded mostly in Helsinki last winter, and Alan produced the whole thing himself.

September is an exciting month for me, and knowing that albums like Era Extraña will be released then only make it that much better.

Neon Indian is preparing to release his 2nd album this fall. He recorded most of it in Helsinki during the winter, and he’s currently finishing it up in New York. Our first taste of the album comes in the form of the short video clip, “Heart: Attack”. It’s titled after the first part of a three part instrumental that will be on the album. It’s sounding good. Director Sean Lopez shot the film.

The Flaming Lips & Neon Indian are the last two bands that I would have expected to collaborate. That’s exactly what makes their collaborative effort so great. Sometimes taking the unexpected route produces the most exciting music, because artists are able to create music that they wouldn’t have made without the outside influence.

Not too long ago The Flaming Lips & Neon got together in New York and recorded four songs for a EP that they’re calling The Flaming Lips with Neon Indian. “Is David Bowie Dying?” is the first song from the EP, and it’s available to listen to now thanks to our friends at Disco Naïveté.

It sounds exactly like what a collaboration between the two should sound like. One part freak-psych rock, the other part blipped out chill-psych. It’s a dark track that comes off as haunted dream state. I wouldn’t walk around near any cemeteries while listening to this, that’s for sure.

Neon Indian took T. Rex’s “Children Of The Revolution” and gave it a blipped out electronic re-work. Don’t know how T. Rex die hards will feel about this cover, but I’m liking it a whole lot.
