Band To Watch: The Northwoods

By Will, July 3rd 2009

I meant to post about St. Louis natives The Northwoods sooner, but I just kept delaying it until I forgot! Well I recently rediscovered their mp3′s on my hard drive, and reminded myself that a post was in order! Northwoods are composed of Elijah Palnik and Jeremy Shanas. Their sound is most easily described as a fresh take on Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and James Taylor. They have been getting a lot of good buzz in their local area, receiving honors such as being called the best band in St. Louis in 2009!

Their music is a beautiful take on folk rock. Their songs are drenched with delightful harmonies that evoke visions of traveling the most beautiful green landscapes that earth has to offer. These songs are delightful, pleasurable, and simple. The Northwoods know how to write songs in a laid back manner that is welcoming to the listener.

I got three wonderful tracks that the band sent me from their debut album Morning, Noon & Night.

[mp3] : The Northwoods – Sun Song

[mp3] : The Northwoods – Elaine

[mp3] : The Northwoods – Tree

If you like what you hear, buy the album!
